I first became curious about watercolor when my dad, who is an art teacher and a musician, started making these really cool paintings. They looked different from the watercolors I had seen before. He wasn’t focused on painting landscapes or capturing things exactly as they appeared; instead, he painted flowers in a way that distorted reality. I loved seeing how he made them his own.
I wasn’t planning on getting into art myself, but one day I found a wonderful coloring book and became completely immersed in it. Eventually, I found myself picking up watercolors like my dad and trying to find my own way. After taking several classes and spending a lot of time practicing, I realized how much I had grown from where I started.
In January 2025, I had surgery for Cushing’s disease. During my recovery, I dove into art as a way to cope with the healing process and everything that had happened in my life. Along that journey, I also lost my mother to cancer. As I worked through my grief, I began developing a style that felt very much my own, and I’m so grateful I had watercolor as a tool to turn to.
We all carry things in our lives, and we’re all searching for our own ways to move through them. My hope is that I can share watercolor with you as another tool for your toolbox, something you can turn to for creativity, comfort, curiosity, or simply a little time for yourself.
That’s also where the name Find Your Glitter comes from. Along the way, I discovered my love for glitter watercolors, and I’m now creating my own line of paints that I’ll be sharing with the class!
When I love something and believe in it, I want to share that experience with others so they can discover their own version of it. In these classes, I’ll walk you through what I believe will help you feel more comfortable exploring watercolor. And if you have a question about something I haven’t covered, please don’t be afraid to ask. I love curiosity and figuring things out, so if I don’t already know the answer, we’ll find it together.
